St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith says Fire Chief Steve Krentel has been cleared in the murder of his wife Nanette, who was found in burned home with a gunshot wound to the head in July. Smith says Steve Krentel was their initial primary person of interest.
"The victim's husband has been cleared," Smith said. "Stephen Krentel has been fully cooperative with this investigation from the beginning."

The St. Tammany Parish Coroner has ruled the death of the fire chief’s wife in July, as a homicide. The body of Nanette Krentel, wife of Fire District 12 Chief Stephen Krentel, was discovered in the rubble of the couple’s home which had burned to the ground on July 14th. Coroner Charles Preston said it was determined from the start Mrs. Krentel died from a gunshot wound.

A Slidell man is facing a first-degree murder charge after he allegedly beat his 7-week-old son to death. St. Tammany Sheriff Randy Smith says deputies responded to a call about an infant who was not breathing last Wednesday. He says after seeing the severe head injuries on Karter Smith, deputies questioned his father, 25-year-old Anthony Dearmas.

The man who was shot and killed by a Slidell homeowner when he was apparently acting erratic in the front yard of the residence was on a severe amount of cough syrup. That's according to St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith. He says the shooter, 24-year-old Shane Hicks, told deputies that he was inside his home when he heard a loud noise outside.

A Slidell High School teacher has been arrested after allegations of inappropriate behavior with students were reported to police. Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith says 34-year-old Raymond Winzy allegedly would start casual conversations with his students, which turned into sexual conversations. He says once Winzy gained their trust he would invite them into his classroom.
