The 2019 governor’s race took a turn that blindsided many, when US Senator John Kennedy announced he would not challenge Governor Edwards. Political consultant Roy Fletcher says there’s a reason why the GOP doesn't have a Plan B candidate.
"Kennedy sucked the oxygen out of the room and then Elvis left the building," said Fletcher. "The bottom line is that they don't have a candidate yet, but they will."

Governor John Bel Edwards says the United States has lost a great statesman and an American hero. He’s of course talking about Arizona Senator John McCain, who passed away at the age of 81 from a battle with brain cancer.
Political consultant Roy Fletcher of Baton Rouge was McCain’s Deputy National Campaign Manager when he ran for President in 2000. Fletcher calls McCain a brilliant politician.

So what options does the governor have now after a sales tax bill failed to get approval that would replaced over 500-million dollars in expiring taxes? Political consultant Roy Fletcher says the governor may have to accept the House plan, which would set the sales tax rate at 4.3 percent after July 1st.  
“What he has to do is come back with the notion to not be greedy and figure out how to get a third of a penny, get some money, make some cuts where he can and get the hell out of here.”

More money expected to be spent in Senate runoff

Even though Republican's seized control of the Senate after last night's mid-term primary elections, you should still expect the party, as well as GOP Political Action Committees, to spend significant money in Louisiana's Senate runoff.  Political consultant Roy Fletcher says Republicans still want to win this seat.
