Off duty police officer killed in accident, was not wearing a seat belt

An off-duty Alexandria police officer was killed in an accident in Grant Parish Wednesday. 53-year-old Sgt. Travis Lowe of Deville was southbound on Highway 167, when he lost control of his pickup truck and collided with a large tree. Master State Police Trooper Scott Moreau says the frigid weather didn’t play a factor in the accident.

An Alexandria Police officer has been booked into the Rapides Parish detention center on malfeasance and drug charges. State Trooper Scott Moreau says State Police received a tip last month regarding criminal activity involving 42-year-old Kenneth Thomas of Deville.

One man dead, two children injured after ATV collides with van

Two children are recovering in Avoyelles Parish after being thrown from an ATV when it collided with a vehicle on Wednesday night. State Trooper Scott Moreau says the driver, 30-year-old Jeremy Armand of St. Martinville, was killed in the crash.

An Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Deputy has been injured and a man is dead after an officer involved shooting in Mamou. State Police Trooper Scott Moreau says the deputy responded to a call of an attempted burglary after 4 o’clock Thursday morning. He says the officer confronted 27-year-old Dejuan Guillory and an altercation occurred between the two.

A 35-year-old man is facing three counts of attempted first degree murder after shooting at law enforcement during a standoff in Avoyelles Parish yesterday. State Trooper Scott Moreau says Brandon Carpenter of Elizabeth barricaded himself inside a residence in Moreauville and during negotiations, Carpenter fired at officers.

State Police say nearly two million dollars worth of drugs are off the streets of Central Louisiana as the result of the arrest of an Alexandria man. Trooper Scott Moreau says earlier this month detectives began investigating 37-year-old Derrick Felton for distribution of methamphetamine and he was taken into custody during a traffic stop.

Three people dead after fiery crash in Vernon Parish

Three people are dead after a fiery crash in Vernon Parish early this morning. State Trooper Scott Moreau says around 1:40 a.m. troopers responded to a crash on Highway 1146 near Rosepine. He says there were three people inside the 2009 Chevy Malibu when the driver apparently veered off the roadway and hit several trees.

Winter weather causing safety concerns

State officials are advising Louisiana residents to stay safe as winter weather moves through the state. State Trooper Scott Moreau says as freezing rain and sleet falls in many north and central Louisiana parishes, roadways are becoming more dangerous. LSP reminds hunters not to park on the side of highways

Louisiana State Police is advising hunters to pay attention to where they leave their vehicles, or they could get a ticket. Master Trooper Scott Moreau says many hunters park their trucks along the tree line and when motorists see the vehicles on the side of the road, they often think someone needs help.

LSP participates in national Move Over Campaign

Law enforcement are raising awareness about Louisiana’s “move over” law this week during the National Move Over Campaign. Louisiana Master Trooper Scott Moreau says the law aims to protect first responders working on the side of the road. He says the law is simple, if you see someone working on the shoulder, move over.
