Tomorrow voters head to the polls to cast their ballots, but there hasn’t been much publicity for the statewide election of a new Secretary of State. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat said the stressed importance of this Election Day for other issues on the ballot has resulted in more people casting votes in the special election for the statewide seat.

Secretary of State Tom Schedler is expecting a voter turnout of 13 percent statewide for Saturday’s election which features the race for state treasurer and the New Orleans mayoral runoff between LaToya Cantrell and Desiree Charbonnet. Schedler says if it wasn’t for this race, it would be a slow day at the polls.

|Early voting begins today for the November 18th election. There is a state treasurer's race, New Orleans mayoral contest and some local propositions to be decided. The October 13th election only saw a 14% turnout. Secretary of State Tom Schedler predicts an 11% turnout this month. He says there is not much excitement surrounding this election.|

Governor Bobby Jindal has issued an executive order, setting dates for special elections to replace 5th District Congressman Rodney Alexander. U.L-Lafayette political science professor Pearson Cross says Democrats must see this as a chance to retake that district, which has been held by a Republican since 2004.
