Opelousas Man in Custody for a Series of Arson-related Charges

An Opelousas man is under arrest after allegedly setting a series of fires targeted at harassing his ex-girlfriend. The suspect, 35-year-old Austin Ceasar, was slapped with a series of arson-related charges after authorities found evidence that connected him to three fires dating back to March 9th.

St. Landry priest accused of sexual abuse

The pastor of St. Peter Church in St. Landry Parish has been accused of sexual abuse of a minor in an alleged incident that occurred several years ago. 75-year-old Michael Guidry has been a priest for nearly 50 years, while running St. Peter for the last nine. Lafayette Bishop Doug Deshotel says the priest has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by law enforcement.

Sheriff Guidroz: Opelousas woman kills uncle for talking too much

An Opelousas woman is in jail after allegedly killing her uncle because of his “constant chattering.” St. Landry Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says 49-year-old Melissa Ann Credeur initially accused John Ray Gautreaux of raping her while she slept. When she woke up, she told detectives he was not breathing and started beating him. But Guidroz says after questioning Credeur, the real story came out.

Four cows killed in levee area of St. Landry Parish

The Louisiana Agriculture and Forestry Department is seeking information in finding persons responsible for the death of a cow and three calves. Commissioner Mike Strain says they were killed in a pasture at a levee near Port Barre.
 
"Inspectors say it appears the cattle were run over by a truck.  According to witnesses, they say they heard what sounded like trucks mud riding in the area around midnight on March 3rd."

Body of Shreveport woman discovered in St. Landry Parish

Authorities in St. Landry Parish are investigating the finding of a 21-year-old woman’s body in Lake Dubisson. The body was found this morning, but a search was started Sunday after a fisherman reeled in an unusual item from the lake according to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.

Convicted murderer confesses to killing uncle in 2011

A St. Landry Parish cold case becomes a murder case after an inmate confesses to killing his great uncle in 2011. Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says Dale LaFleur has been missing since 2011, and his great nephew 23-year-old Phillip LaFleur was incarcerated in LaSalle Parish on a separate murder charge. He says Phillip LaFleur passed a note to the guards saying he wanted to speak with St. Landry Parish detectives.

16-year-old Washington driver dies in crash after colliding with a cow

A 16-year-old driver who wasn't buckled up has died in a crash after she hit livestock that was standing in the middle of the road near the St. Landry/Evangeline Parish line. State Police Sgt. Jared Sandifer says the female victim is identified as Adrian Johnson of Washington.

Arnaudville man dies after boating accident in St. Landry Parish

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries recovered the body of a 22-year-old Arnaudville man in the water in St. Landry Parish after a boating accident. LDWF spokesperson Adam Einck says Arron Baber and the driver of the boat were traveling on Bayou D’Arbonne when the vessel hit a railroad bridge piling.

Several Beau Chene High School student suspended in grade changing scheme

A total of 46 Beau Chene High School Students have been suspended after an investigation into a student who is accused of changing their grades.  St. Landry school superintendent Edward Brown says a student was able to gain access to a web-based grading computer program, after obtaining a teacher's password.
