Especially now that it’s getting darker earlier, State Farm wants to remind people to watch out for deer while driving. Louisiana ranks 41st in the country for the most deer collisions. State Farm Spokesperson Kip Diggs says it’s now mating season deer and they’re on the move. He says dusk to dawn are the highest risk times to see deer out on the roadways.

The number of teens involved in fatal car crashes went down 53% in Louisiana over the last ten years, according to the National Young Driver Survey. Kip Diggs with State Farm says car crashes are the number one killer of teenagers. He says the biggest contributing factor to the decrease is graduated driver’s licensing laws.

As many Americans are traveling over the holiday weekend, thieves are on the lookout for those leaving their homes. State Farm saw 1,420 theft claims in Louisiana in 2015. A survey released from State Farm finds many teenagers are still texting and driving ever after understanding the potential dangers. Spokesperson Roszell Gadson says over 90% of teens admit to knowing it’s distracting, yet 44% confessed they still text and drive. Yahoo reports Louisiana is second most lightning prone state in US

A report by Yahoo says Louisiana has the second most lightning strikes a year in the country. Louisiana trails Florida but is just ahead of Mississippi. State Climatologist Barry Keim says we average about 827,000 strikes a year and lightning has caused 142 fatalities since 1959, or about 2.5 deaths a year.
