Dangerous Levels of Lead in School Drinking Water Corrected

It appears the issues that caused dangerous levels of lead to contaminate the water supply for Tensas Parish schools have been corrected. After flushing out water lines, updating drinking fountains, and other steps were taken, the risk of danger associated with the water supply appears to be in the rearview mirror.

Residents of the small town of St. Joseph in Tensas parish are soaked with joy over a new water system that went on-line today. Governor John Bel Edwards was in St. Joseph to cut the ribbon on the badly needed facility. Shauna Sanford is the Governor's communications director.

St. Joseph mom arrested for allegedly killing newborn and putting him in a dumpster

State Police has arrested a St. Joseph mother for allegedly murdering her newborn and putting him in the dumpster. The infant was found Monday in front of an elementary school. Senior Trooper Michael Reichardt says 21-year-old Alicia Richard is charged with first degree murder.

State Police are awaiting autopsy results on an infant that was found dead in a dumpster in Tensas Parish. Media reports say the grisly discovery was made at Tensas Elementary School. Senior Trooper Michael Reichardt says once the autopsy is completed they'll have a better idea what happened.

The town of St. Joseph is finally getting a brand new water system and Governor John Bel Edwards was on hand today for the groundbreaking. Deputy Chief of Staff Julie Baxter Payer says this was a very important milestone for the Tensas Parish town.

State Police: 3 people dead after 2 crashes on Tuesday

State Police say a Donaldsonville man was killed Tuesday night when his vehicle crashed into a dump truck in a construction zone in Ascension Parish.  Trooper Jared Sandifer says 42-year-old Kirt Canova ignored a flag man who was attempting to control traffic in a construction zone on LA 30.

Terror in Tensas: One hostage/gunman dead

The community of St. Joseph in Tensas Parish is in total shock today after a hostage situation at a bank in town ended in bloody tragedy.

State Police Trooper Albert Paxton says 20-year-old Fuaed Ahmed took three hostages at the Tensas State Bank around noon Tuesday and told negotiators he would kill them all if his demands were not met.
