Seven Louisiana college baseball teams to compete in conference tournaments

There are seven teams from Louisiana competing in conference tournaments this week. Highlighting the group is the LSU Tigers, who will be the #2 seed in the SEC Tournament and they'll play on Wednesday at around 1 PM.

UL Lafayette expands Louisiana Legacy Scholarship

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette announces the expansion of their Louisiana Legacy Scholarship. Vice President for Enrollment Management Dr. DeWayne Bowie says the scholarship is designed to bring out of state students with Louisiana ties back to the state. He says the scholarship covers out of state fees for these students.

Convention and qualifying highlight the week in politics

It’s a big week in politics with the Republican National Convention and qualifying for the federal elections. UL-Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says Donald Trump’s acceptance speech as the Republican nominee on Thursday night is the most anticipated speech of the year. He says you never know what side of Trump you will get.

Arizona beats the Cajuns twice to win Lafayette Regional

After beating Arizona 10-3 on Sunday, it seemed like UL Lafayette was destined for a trip to the Super Regionals.
 
But the Wildcats stormed back to win three games in a 24-hour period to win the Lafayette Regional and advance to play Mississippi State in the Super Regionals.

Ragin Cajuns headed to Lafayette regional championship round

In a winner's bracket contest in the Lafayette Regional, UL Lafayette scored 3 runs in the first inning and went on to a 10-3 win over the Wildcats.
 
Stefan Trosclair drove in the first run and the last run of the game. The senior from Sulphur also homered for the 8th time this season.

Five Louisiana teams are in the NCAA Baseball Tournament; LSU a national seed

The LSU Tigers are an #8 national seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. Which means the Bayou Bengals will get to host a Super Regional, if they are able to win the Baton Rouge regional this weekend.

A record four teams from the SEC received national seeds, Florida, Texas A&M and Mississippi State, are the three other teams.

Ragin' Cajuns football to vacate 22 victories

UL-Lafayette will have to vacate 22 football games between 2011 and 2014, as a result of a two-year NCAA Committee investigation. The committee determined that a former assistant coach falsified ACT scores for five students, meaning those students were ineligible to play. Games involving ineligible players led to vacating those victories. Jay Walker, the voice of the Ragin' Cajuns, says he understands the committee’s ruling.

Three Louisiana baseball teams ranked in preseason poll

Three Louisiana college baseball teams are ranked in the first preseason poll. Collegiate Baseball has UL Lafayette ranked sixth, LSU is ranked seventh and Tulane is ranked 19th. Tigers Coach Paul Mainieri says it's nice to see his team ranked in the top ten.

Researcher looks for burial grounds of first Acadians

A UL-Lafayette researcher is trying to find the burial grounds of the first Acadians in an effort to discover the location of their colony.  Anthropologist Mark Rees says the goal of the New Acadia Project is to discover the location of the New Acadia Colony that dates back to the mid-18th century.

UL Lafayette grad student designs life vest for women

UL Lafayette industrial design graduate student Kate Brown decided to take an alternative route for her senior thesis project. Brown entered the Innovations in Life Jacket Design Competition where she designed a comfortable and form fitting life preserver, made especially for women. She says growing up on the water in Basile, she found regular life jackets didn’t let her move comfortably.
