A federal judge has ordered $34.8 million in restitution from the owner of Explo Systems, a military contractor hired to demilitarize artillery charges at Camp Minden in Webster Parish, in a case stemming from a huge munitions blast in 2012 due to illegal dumping of the materials. US Attorney David Joseph said it was a difficult case to clean up.

|The Webster Parish School District has settled a lawsuit
with the ACLU that alleged that they created a coercive environment that
subjected students to school sponsored Christian religious activities. ACLU
Staff Attorney Bruce Hamilton says they received complaints from a Webster
Parish student’s family that the activities had been ongoing for some time.|

The Senate passed a proposal that will allow school
employees to pray with students during the class hours. Before joining in the
group prayers, students would have to have a signed request form signed by
their parents. The bill’s sponsor, Bossier Senator Ryan Gatti, says it’s a
response to recent legal actions taken against his parish.

The state department of transportation is hopeful the major overlay project on I-20 in Webster Parish will wrap around the Thanksgiving weekend, which would be ahead of schedule. DOTD spokesperson Erin Buchanan says the westbound lanes are complete and contractors are working in the eastbound lanes.

Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton says a 7-year-old boy who shot his aunt two times for not feeding him will not be charged with a crime. He says Louisiana law states a child under the age of 10 cannot form intent, so they do not have the authority to file charges against the boy. He says the child has had some problems in the past.

The burning of M6 propellant at Camp Minden in Webster Parish is complete, but the job might not be done yet. The Louisiana National Guard has the option to extend their contract with ESI and allow them to continue to burn off hazardous substances there. But LSU Shreveport science professor Brian Salvatore, who sits on the concerned citizens’ advisory board, wants the burning to stop now.

An escaped work release inmate is once again behind bars after a high speed chase in Webster Parish that ended with a vehicle going airborne. Webster Sheriff Gary Sexton says deputies pulled over a vehicle for speeding down Highway 371. He says after the driver stepped out of the truck, 18-year-old Kevonte Austin took off, and deputies set up a roadblock to catch him.

Another person has died following an ATV crash at Muddy Bottoms in Webster Parish, and three others are injured. Sheriff's Office spokesman Bobby Igo says two all-terrain vehicles slammed into each other at the park Friday evening, and the crash killed 40-year-old Alissa Wiley of Dry Prong and injured three others.

The state department of agriculture and forestry is setting out traps to track the invasive asian bug called the Emerald Ash Borer. The beetle was discovered recently in Webster Parish and it kills ash trees. Commissioner Mike Strain says the traps will be placed in high risk areas along the interstate, welcome centers and the Mississippi River Delta.

|Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington says the charred remains found in Webster Parish are those of 46-year-old Annie Bond, who was reported missing last Thursday. Her estranged husband, 53-year-old Robbie Bond, has been charged in her murder. Whittington says a forensic expert at LSU was able to make the positive identification.|
