East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux says the Baton Rouge police ambush a year ago today was a turning point for our community. Gautreaux says he was in Lake Charles when he received a phone call telling him his officers were shot. He says he raced back to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital where he learned three officers had lost their lives.

Former Texas police officer donates custom caskets to three fallen officers

A former Texas law enforcement officer is donating custom made caskets to the three officers who lost their lives in Sunday’s ambush in Baton Rouge. Trey Ganem is the owner of Trey Ganem Designs says he decided to make the caskets after watching a video featuring one of the fallen officers, Montrell Jackson.

Governor's Office hosts blood drive outside State Capitol

The Governor’s office hosts a blood drive today in honor of the three law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the ambush in Baton Rouge on Sunday.

Deputy Chief of Staff in the Governor’s Office of Programs and Planning Johnny Anderson says they wanted to show support and come together during this difficult time in our state. He says they wanted to provide a gift to the community.

Autopsy: Law enforcement officers died of multiple gun shot wounds

The autopsy findings of the three officers killed in the police ambush by Gavin Long have been released. East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr. Beau Clark says each officer’s death was ruled a homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds.

Mental health professional provides tips on coping with recent police shooting

With the recent attacks on police in Dallas and Baton Rouge, there are some who are struggling with how to mentally handle these senseless tragedies. Medical Director at the Capital Area Human Services Dr. Aniedi Udofa says it’s easy to feel guilty, helpless and scared about what might happen next. She advises finding a trustworthy friend if you are having trouble coping.

Officers killed in ambush are remembered as heroes

The three law enforcement officers killed in Sunday’s ambush attack in Baton Rouge are being remembered today as heroes. Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie says Office Matthew Gerald was a devoted husband and father of two and joined the Baton Rouge Police Department in March. Dabadie says Gerald also served in the Marine Corp, the Army, and served three tours in Iraq.

St. Charles Deputy shot multiple times in apparent ambush

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's office says a deputy directing traffic at a school crossing in Paradis was shot multiple times in an apparent ambush. Captain Pat Yoes says the victim was helping buses make their way off of Highway 90 around 8:50 Thursday morning when the incident took place.
 
The deputy is identified as 36-year-old Corporal Burt Hazeltine, a married father of four.
