Lafourche Humane Society president arrested on animal cruelty charges

After law enforcement made the discovery of more than a dozen horses that all appeared to be emaciated on her property in Lockport, the Lafourche Humane Society President, Pamela George and fellow property owner John Gautreaux, have been arrested and charged with animal cruelty. Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Brennan Matherne said the investigation began in early November.

Thibodaux Man Arrested on Animal Cruelty Charge After Killing Cat with Machete

A Thibodaux man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after allegedly throwing his girlfriend’s cat into a bayou, then killing it with a machete. Authorities with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office say 30 year old Cody Toups is now charged with aggravated cruelty to animals in the incident.

Break in case of emergency: It is now legal to rescue pets and kids from hot cars

It is now legal in Louisiana to rescue a pet or a minor from a locked, parked vehicle, by smashing a window to get in. The new law went into effect yesterday, and provides criminal and civil protection for good Samaritans who take action against the illegal activity. Louisiana SPCA spokesperson Alicia Haefele says there’s two things you need to do before breaking that window.

Shreveport woman faces felony charges after three dogs died in her car unattended

A Shreveport woman is facing felony charges after her three dogs were found dead in her car. Bossier City Police Spokesperson Mark Natale says that 47-year-old Nancy Western was at Willis Knighton Medical Center when she left her two Labrador retrievers and cocker spaniel in the vehicle.

A St. Charles parish man has been arrested after he allegedly shot his neighbor’s cat with a bow and arrow. Sheriff Greg Champagne says the cat apparently wandered onto 33-year-old Cody Dupre’s property.

Bogalusa mother and daughter arrested on animal cruelty charges

The Washington Parish Sheriff's Office has arrested a mother and daughter accused of neglecting more than 40 animals at their home in Bogalusa.  Terri Turner and Frannie Fisher are charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty.

Two horses shot to death in Assumption Parish

The Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting death of two horses in Bertrandville.  Sheriff Mike Waguespack says they were contacted by the owner after he discovered his horses lying on the ground.

Ringling Bros. to end elephant acts

It looks like the end of an era is coming for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.  Feld Entertainment, the circus' parent company, has announced they are phasing out their fabled elephant acts by 2018.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's office says a woman who runs an animal rescue organization is under arrested after her 3-year-old child and several dogs were found living in adverse conditions inside her home. Spokesman Brennan Matherne says when deputies responded they could observe some of the animals outside the residence.

Reward Offered in Suspected Poisoning of 2 Bald Eagles in Lafourche Parish

State and federal wildlife officials are offering a cash reward to solve the poisoning of two bald eagles in Lafourche Parish. U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service spokesman Tom MacKenzie says the eagles were discovered dead back in mid-April, near Thibodaux.
