Charges filed in case of collapsed obstacle at Warrior Dash

After months of investigating, charges have been filed in the case of an obstacle that collapsed at a Warrior Dash in St. Francisville. Chief Deputy Brant Thompson with the state fire marshal’s office says twenty people were injured when the Diesel Dome collapsed.

State officials want firework safety to be top of mind this Fourth of July

Many Americans cannot imagine the Fourth of July without fireworks, but state officials say it's very important to keep safety measures in mind when setting off the colorful and loud pyrotechnics. Brant Thompson with the State Fire Marshal's Office says the gravity of exercising care while using fireworks cannot be over stated.

Jennings woman allegedly lied about how 4-year-old niece was set on fire

A Jennings woman is facing additional charges for allegedly lying about how her 4-year-old niece was set on fire. State Fire Marshal's office spokesman Brant Thompson says 29-year-old Gail Brown is accused of having sex for money at a home while her 6-year-old daughter and the 4-year-old niece were in a vehicle.

Unattended stove to blame for fatal Baton Rouge fire

The state Fire Marshal’s Office believes an unattended pot left on a stove top led to a fatal fire at a Baton Rouge apartment complex that killed a 5-year-old girl. Chief Deputy Brant Thompson says an 18-year-old was caring for her sister, Treasure Garner, when she tried to cook fried chicken and left the apartment with a pot of grease on the stove.

One dead, one critically injured after intentionally set house fire

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says a 28-year-old Covington man is dead after he lit his home on fire while in a drunken fight with his father. Deputy Chief Brant Thompson says the man’s father, twin brother and step mother, went out drinking and when they returned home, things got physical.

Jena mother charged in death of 6-year-old

A mother has been arrested in the death of her 6-year-old daughter who died in a fire in Jena early Wednesday morning. Chief Deputy Brant Thompson with the State Fire Marshal’s Office says investigators found illegally energized electrical wires and an electric space heater in use near the mattress where Ayla Breeland was sleeping.

Investigation continues into obstacle collapse at Warrior Dash

More than a dozen people are injured and four remain hospitalized following the collapse of an obstacle at the Warrior Dash in West Feliciana Parish. Deputy Chief with the State Fire Marshall’s Office, Brant Thompson, says a 20 foot tall climbing structure called the “Diesel Dome” came down while 20 people were on it.

Fire Marshal: Electronic cigarettes catching fire in people's pockets

The State Fire Marshal has put out a warning about electronic cigarettes, after two people were recently burned in Louisiana when their vaporizing device exploded. Deputy Chief Brant Thompson says in both cases the batteries in the vaping mods overheated.

Fatal fire in Winnsboro leaves 3 dead, 3 severely injured

Three people were killed in a tragic fire during the overnight hours in Winnsboro, a father and two sons. A mother, a daughter, and another son were also seriously injured. Brant Thompson, with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, says when the firefighters arrived, they found the singlewide trailer fully engulfed in flames.

Family of four on life support after West Monroe fire

The state Fire Marshal's Office says a family of four is on life support following a Sunday fire in West Monroe. Deputy Chief Brant Thompson says 26-year-old Jeremiah Owojori, his 24-year-old pregnant wife Ashley, and their two sons, aged 5-years and 7-months are in very critical condition, clinging to life.
