Honore scraps measure to put recreational marijuana legalization on ballot

Baton Rouge Representative Dalton Honore has pulled his legislation that would have put recreational marijuana legalization on a ballot. Honore says times are changing and he's glad the conversation about marijuana has been started this session, but his particular measure had too much opposition and he knew it wouldn't pass.

A Baton Rouge lawmaker will file a bill for the upcoming legislative session that seeks to let citizens vote on whether or not marijuana should be legal in Louisiana for recreational use. Representative Dalton Honore is also bring back his medical marijuana bill which failed last year.

When the legislative session begins in April, lawmakers will once again discuss whether or not to authorize the use of medical marijuana in Louisiana.  Democratic Baton Rouge Representative Dalton Honore's measure was defeated in the Senate last year.

House Transportation committee halts legislation to ban hand-held cell phone use by drivers

The House transportation committee put the brakes on a proposal that would ban the use of a hand held cell phone while driving. Breaux Bridge Representative Mike Huval wanted to make it a secondary offense, if a driver used a hand-held cell phone. But there was strong opposition from committee members.

Legislators to hold meeting to discuss medical marijuana and pot legalization

Louisiana's House Criminal Justice Committee will hold a meeting later this month to discuss the feasibility and effectiveness of legalizing marijuana possession and use. Baton Rouge Representative Dalton Honore requested the meeting and he says his main focus is to look at the use of medical marijuana in this state.
