Grambling beefing up security in wake of fatal on-campus shooting

Grambling State University President Rick Gallot says they are beefing up security, after a gunman killed two 23-year-old men from Farmerville after an altercation in a dorm room. Gallot says he spoke with Governor John Bel Edwards, who offered Grambling additional resources for the upcoming homecoming weekend.

Lafayette Police Corporal Michael Paul Middlebrook is dead following an exchange of gunfire at the Big Boy Discount Zone convenience store. State Trooper Brooks David says the Lafayette Police Department was dispatched shortly after 10 PM Sunday night in reference to an aggravated assault with a gun.

State legislator looks to tighten controls on city marshals

The city of Marksville is trying to come to grips as why city marshals opened fire on a vehicle last week, killing a 6-year-old boy.  Derrick Stafford and Norris Greenhouse, Jr. are accused of shooting and killing Jeremy Mardis following a police chase.

State Police honors those who helped Trooper Steven Vincent

Today, State Police honored the four people who rendered aid to Trooper Steven Vincent while he was critically wounded during a traffic stop in August.  Vincent was shot and killed while trying to assist a motorist with his vehicle.

Two arrested in Shreveport fatal shooting

Shreveport Police have arrested two people they believe responsible for a deadly shooting that killed one and injured two others.  Cpl. Breck Scott says 29-year-old Elbert Fredieu and 24-year-old Scarlett Groce were taken into custody Wednesday.

West St. John football coach shot and killed in Baton Rouge

West St. John High School in Edgard is mourning the death of one of its football coaches, who was killed early Sunday morning outside of a Baton Rouge nightclub. Authorities say Juan Joseph, who served as the Rams' quarterbacks coach, got into an argument with some other men, when someone in a car fired shots. West St. John Head Coach Robert Valdez is in disbelief.

State Police investigating fatal officer-involved shooting in Ruston

State Police are investigating a officer-involved shooting incident in Ruston that left one man dead. Trooper Albert Paxton says a series of violent events early Sunday morning - allegedly committed by 22-year-old Joseph Glenn of Grambling - drew the attention of Ruston Police. Police identified Glenn as the suspect in an armed robbery at a convenience store and an attempted kidnapping at a Wal-Mart. They located him at a Ruston motel, where he confronted them with an apparent handgun. Paxton says the Ruston cops responded with deadly force.

Caddo Sheriff's deputy involved in deadly shooting

One person is dead after a shooting involving a Caddo Parish Sheriff's deputy. Spokesperson Cindy Chadwick says they received a call last night that a man locked himself inside a vehicle in Blanchard and threatened to harm himself.

Chadwick says when a deputy arrived, the man kept screaming he had a gun and was unwilling to show his weapon.
