Opelousas Man in Custody for a Series of Arson-related Charges

An Opelousas man is under arrest after allegedly setting a series of fires targeted at harassing his ex-girlfriend. The suspect, 35-year-old Austin Ceasar, was slapped with a series of arson-related charges after authorities found evidence that connected him to three fires dating back to March 9th.

Two children dead in Bastrop house fire

A fire in Bastrop claimed the lives of two children Wednesday morning. The two boys, seven and eight years old, died after a fire broke out that went undetected, but parents were able to able escape. State Fire Marshal Butch Browning says the parents barely made it out alive.

Governor declares State of Emergency for Orleans over flooding and pump concerns

Unattended stove to blame for fatal Baton Rouge fire

The state Fire Marshal’s Office believes an unattended pot left on a stove top led to a fatal fire at a Baton Rouge apartment complex that killed a 5-year-old girl. Chief Deputy Brant Thompson says an 18-year-old was caring for her sister, Treasure Garner, when she tried to cook fried chicken and left the apartment with a pot of grease on the stove.

One dead, one critically injured after intentionally set house fire

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says a 28-year-old Covington man is dead after he lit his home on fire while in a drunken fight with his father. Deputy Chief Brant Thompson says the man’s father, twin brother and step mother, went out drinking and when they returned home, things got physical.

Fatal fire in Winnsboro leaves 3 dead, 3 severely injured

Three people were killed in a tragic fire during the overnight hours in Winnsboro, a father and two sons. A mother, a daughter, and another son were also seriously injured. Brant Thompson, with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, says when the firefighters arrived, they found the singlewide trailer fully engulfed in flames.

Family of four on life support after West Monroe fire

The state Fire Marshal's Office says a family of four is on life support following a Sunday fire in West Monroe. Deputy Chief Brant Thompson says 26-year-old Jeremiah Owojori, his 24-year-old pregnant wife Ashley, and their two sons, aged 5-years and 7-months are in very critical condition, clinging to life.

East Carroll Parish house fire claims the life of one

The State Fire Marshal's Office says a house fire in East Carroll Parish has taken the life of a Lake Providence man.  Kenneth Jefferson died in route to the hospital from injuries suffered while trying to put out the fire.

Victims in Geismar plant explosion; one released, one good, one serious and one critical

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's office says four workers at Renewable Energy Group, or REG, sustained injuries as a result of an explosion Thursday night at the bio-diesel plant in Geismar. Sheriff Jeff Wiley says an initial investigation revealed a hydrogen line under maintenance had become pressurized.

VIDEO: Jefferson Davis Sheriff's Deputy saves 3 from Lacassine house fire

A Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s deputy is being called a hero today after rescuing three people who were sleeping inside a burning home. Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Chris Ivey says Deputy Josh Bienvenu used his quick thinking after driving by the burning house at around 3:40 Tuesday morning while on duty.
