AAA: Gas prices rising as demand is up

The Energy Information Administration says October gasoline consumption was the highest in month-to-month numbers since 2006, which is why there has been a slight increase in prices at the pump. Triple A fuel analyst Don Redman believes the warm fall has led to more people driving increasing demand for gasoline.

Gas prices are on a slow decline, but motorists are still paying more than they did at this time last year. AAA fuel analyst Don Redman says the statewide average price for regular gasoline is $2.22.

Now that Tropical Storm Nate has become a memory for Louisiana, what will that mean for gas prices? Oil rigs from Louisiana to Alabama were shut down and the industry hasn’t fully recovered from Hurricane Harvey in August. Don Redman from Triple-A says any increase in prices we see will be short lived.

It’s been a month since Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas, knocking out nearly 30% of the nation’s refining capacity, but motorists are now starting to see consistent declines in gas prices. That’s according to Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.

AAA: Hurricane Harvey to drive up gas prices

Hurricane Harvey is expected to push prices up at the pump. Don Redman with AAA says refineries shut down for the storm, which could drive up gasoline prices.

“I think at least in the short term until this storm dissipates, we could see prices spike potentially as high as 10 cents from where they are currently,” Redman said.

Gas prices leveling off, may drop more

After peaking over the last couple of weeks, gasoline prices appear to be leveling off, according to GasBuddy. Patrick DeHaan with GasBuddy says this is good news for drivers. He says prices have peaked for the short term and are now moving back down again.

Gas prices are on the rise in the Bayou State. Don Redman with AAA says gas prices in June were the lowest we’ve seen all year, which is unusual for the summer months. He says we’re already seeing an uptick in prices at the pump.

Fourth of July gas prices lowest since 2005

This year’s Fourth of July gas prices are the lowest since 2005. Senior petroleum analyst Patrick Dehaan with says prices have been sliding over the last few weeks. He says believe it or not, prices at the pump are lower now than they were on January 1.

Louisiana one of 30 states to see decline in gas prices

Although increasing slightly nationally, gas prices are dropping in 30 states and Louisiana is one of those seeing a decline in prices at the pump. That's according to AAA spokesperson Don Redman, who says prices are slightly lower than at this time last year.
