State Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says rates for Workers’ Compensation policies have fallen for a fourth year in a row. He says this is good news for Louisiana businesses because it makes competing for jobs easier.

The Louisiana Department of Insurance urges families to compare rates for insurance and homeowners insurance to get the best protection.
Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says a home and car are the biggest investments people make. He says on their website, ldi.la.gov, they provide a rate guide to help people find the best policy.

Louisiana residents who live in areas that flooded this year will pay more for car insurance as a result of the 2016 floods, according to state Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon. He says drivers’ comprehensive coverage will go up because over 100-thousand cars were destroyed by the flood.

There's actually a downside for Louisiana motorists when gas prices are low. And that is higher insurance rates. The Insurance Information Institute says more people are driving now and when more people drive, there are more accidents, which leads to higher insurance costs. Louisiana Insurance Commissioner, Jim Donelon, blames distracted driving for an increase in wrecks.

It’s much cheaper for teens to stay on their parent’s car insurance, rather than going out on their own. According to InsuranceQuotes.com, it costs 26 percent more for young adults to get their own car insurance policy in Louisiana than staying on their parent’s. Senior analyst Laura Adams says this number is eight percent higher than the national average.
