An LSU Public Policy Research Lab survey finds a majority of Louisiana residents support two of Governor John Bel Edwards' major policy issues – criminal justice reform and Medicaid expansion. Of those surveyed, 61%  say they support the sweeping changes made last year.

AG Jeff Landry says Medicaid may be to blame for opioid crisis

State Attorney General Jeff Landry has announced a drug prescription takeback box is now available 24 hours a day at the Baton Rouge Police Department. In making the announcement, Landry addressed the drug problem taxing the state. Louisiana Survey finds most residents approve of Medicaid expansion

Most Louisiana residents approve of Medicaid expansion, according to an LSU survey. Director of the LSU Public Policy Research Lab, Dr. Michael Henderson says 72 percent of respondents for the 2017 Louisiana Survey approve of the expansion. He says the approval rating for the Affordable Care Act has increased over the past few years.

Louisiana governor urges congressional leaders to keep Medicaid expansion

The governor’s communications director Richard Carbo says as the debate is underway in the nation’s capital to repeal and replace Obamacare, Edwards is standing behind the program he signed into law on his first day in office.

The meeting comes amid ongoing discussions at the nation’s capital about repealing the Affordable Care Act. Medicaid expansion enrollment fast surpassing goals

Enrollment in the expanded Medicaid program is exceeding the goals set by the Louisiana Department of Health extremely fast. LDH Secretary Dr. Rebekah Gee says they hope to enroll 375-thousand people by next June. She says the state has reached 73% of its enrollment goal in less than 50 days, and well surpassed the goal they had set for this July as well.

Today is the first day Louisianans can enroll in Medicaid under the newly expanded program. Gov. John Bel Edwards and DHH Secretary Dr. Rebekah Gee will attend an enrollment kick-off event this morning at University Medical center in New Orleans. Edwards says Louisiana is simply bringing federal tax dollars home to put them to work for the poor.

Governor John Bel Edwards has kicked off his statewide tour to discuss Medicaid expansion. Over the next month, Edwards and Secretary of the Department of Health and Hospitals, Dr. Rebekah Gee, will visit cities to raise awareness and answer questions about who will be eligible to enroll for the government health insurance on June 1st. Edwards also announced that the state’s health program has a new name.

Governor John Bel Edwards announces enrollment for the state’s expanded Medicaid program will begin June 1st. Edwards told the Senate Health and Welfare Committee that expanding Medicaid will benefit the state greatly by cutting healthcare costs and improving health outcomes. He says the expansion will also save the state much-needed dollars in critical budget times.
