Donna Edwards wants emphasis on arts and music in public schools

Governor-elect John Bel Edwards’ wife Donna Edwards says she plans to stress the importance of teaching art and music in public schools as the state’s first lady. Emily Wright, a Music Teacher at Slidell Junior High, says she was really excited to hear this because many people see music as an extra course when in reality, children really need to take these classes.

New Orleans music icon Allen Toussaint dies

The music community is in mourning today after the passing of New Orleans music icon Allen Toussaint. Toussaint was on tour in Europe when he reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack after a performance Monday in Madrid, Spain.  

Louisiana Music Hall of Fame President Mike Shepherd says Toussaint was not only a big international figure in music, but also a true gentleman.

5-Day Festival International in Lafayette begins today

The massive Festival International which brings in music and art lovers from all over the world, kicks off today in Lafayette. The annual 5-day festival is always held during the last full week of April.
