First day of Spring!

The Spring Equinox occurs later today at precisely 5:45pm our time, marking the end of winter and the very beginning of Spring. State Climatologist Barry Keim says this past winter will go into the record books as being extremely cold and dry in Louisiana.

Keim: 2014 Year in Louisiana Weather

The 2014 year in weather will go down as the year of the polar vortex. State Climatologist Barry Keim says this large pocket of very cold air has been around for a while but it was really brought to life this year in Louisiana. He says this polar vortex produced four rounds of mixed precipitation here.

ANOTHER August Cold Front!

State Climatologist Barry Keim says we've had northerly breezes move into Louisiana causing the humidity levels to drop dramatically. He says the weather outside is feeling much more comfortable that what you'd expect in The Bayou State for the middle of August.

El Nino watch issued: state climatologist says it could reduce number of 2014 hurricanes

The Climate Prediction Center issued an 'El Nino Watch' suggesting that we have a 50 percent chance of having an El Nino develop this summer or over the fall.  State Climatologist Barry Keim says sea surface temperatures in the tropical pacific increased in the past few months lead researchers to think an El Nino could form.

Goodbye January! Hello warmer weather...(hopefully)

Parts of Louisiana MAY See Some Small Heat Wave Relief

Louisiana has been in the grip of a nasty heat wave; the first one so far this summer. State Climatologist Barry Keim says we may see some small relief from triple-digit temperatures, thanks to a weak easterly wave sitting offshore.
