Construction of the Prien Lake Bridge portion of I-210 in the Lake Charles area is set to begin in early January. The project will see the addition of extra lighting and a new surface for the 930-foot stretch of bridge. DOTD spokesperson Tammy York said the main area of construction will begin near where I-210 splits off from I-10.
“The construction zone is from about the I-210 interchange to right off the end of the bridge, right before that first exit,” said York.
The bridge was built in the 60’s and York says several issues are being tackled with the $35 million project.
“We are going to go in there and put in a new deck that will extend the life of the run. Also, adding safety features like lighting, we’re installing an inspection walkway underneath,” said York.
York said the department has worked to mitigate traffic impacts during the project but says if you don’ t have to travel I-210, stay away for the first few days of construction.
“Save yourself some headache, because it’s going to be a little bit confusing, but as everybody gets used to it, it won’t be as bad as you think it will be,” said York.
