President Trump is set to address the nation tonight at 8 PM and lay out his case for increased funding for border security in the midst of a government shutdown over the President’s demand for 5.7 billion dollars in funding for additional physical border wall.
“To suggest that we need thousands of miles of border wall, I don’t think is appropriate. I do think that we need border walls in many areas and we need hundreds and hundreds of miles.”
Several major networks will air a rebuttal from Democratic leadership immediately after the speech.
Graves says additional border security is necessary due to the presence of Central American cartels on the Mexican side that he says are responsible for the vast majority of opioids in America, and other criminal activity.
“All of the awful heinous murders and cartels crimes that are happening, the drugs, the human smuggling, and other things that are occurring.”
But Democrats refuse to pass a spending bill that includes border wall funding, calling it wasteful and unnecessary. Democrat and Assistant to the Majority Whip Cedric Richmond says the House will not force taxpayers to waste their money on the President’s campaign slogan.
“He promised he wanted to build a wall that was his claim and he won on it. But he also won on the fact that Mexico would have paid for it. A concrete wall or whatever else he is proposing is not the best use of money.”
“Illegal immigration is at an all-time low in this country’s history. That is not the best and most effective way to secure the border, we should use technology.”
