LSU star linebacker Devin White posted a video on Twitter announcing that he’s forgoing his senior season and entering the NFL draft. White made his announcement on the final day underclassmen had to declare their intentions. Tiger Rag Editor James Moran says White wrestled with the decision.
“Playing a violent position like linebacker, you never know when something can happen, I think it was too much money to leave on the table,” said Moran. “I don’t think anyone can blame him for leaving, I think he genuinely thought about staying.”
White is the first player from LSU to win the Butkus Award, which goes to the nation’s best linebacker.
LSU lost three underclassmen to the NFL draft, White, cornerback Greedy Williams and defensive tackle Ed Alexander. But Moran says the Tigers should still be good on defense next season, even at linebacker.
“They’ve signed some linebackers this year that can provide some depth, ” said Moran. “Patrick Queen is probably guy that steps into Devin’s position, Jacob Phillips is really going to be the guy that will have to step up to be that leader in the linebacker group.”
