The family of one of the Marksville children who died in a fiery interstate calamity outside of Gainesville, Florida has hired an attorney to pursue damages against the two truckers and companies responsible in the crash that killed five children. Attorney Joe Fried says it’s crucial to have the investigation into the tragedy begin today.
“You have to move quickly and we bring the best resources from around the country together in a case like this, and we evaluated what happened. There is a lot that needs to be discovered.”
Eagles Express Lines and New Prime, have been named in the suit, along with their two drivers who died in the crash. Fried says they hope to recover damages for the family of 14-year-old Jeremiah Wright, against one, or all of the parties involved.
“We are seeking compensation ultimately, but the first question in a case like this needs to be, from whom? To get the answers, at this point, we need to do the investigation.”
Reports several days after the wreck noted one of the drivers had been cited several times for his driving, but Fried says it’s too early to confirm that information.
Fried says he’s interested in getting a close look at the company histories, and safety policies at both of the trucking corporations involved. He says hopefully if there are systemic safety issues at one or both of the companies, the suit can force the companies to address them.
“Go beyond the obvious, beyond sort of a driver problem, or a series of driver problems. Are there systematic problems at the corporate level that let things like this happen?”
