The Department of Children and Family Services says they’ve issued February food stamp benefits to 337,000 families. They’ve arrived early due to the government shutdown. DCFS Deputy Assistant Secretary Sammy Guillory says it’s important for recipients to realize, these are not extra benefits.
“Recipients who did receive them early, need to stretch these benefits out through February, because they will not receive additional benefits in February, we are hoping to be able to receive benefits in March,” said Guillory.
Guillory says new applications for food stamps are still being processed as usual in accordance with the agency’s normal process until they are told otherwise.
“We can continue to certify new applications, make changes on existing cases and issue the benefits for those at least into February,” said Guillory.
