Former West Monroe High, LSU and now Ram offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth is looking forward to returning to the scene of some of his greatest athletic triumphs Sunday against the Saints. Whitworth made frequent trips to the dome during high school with a dominant Rebels team, along with a visit in 2003 under Saban’s Purple and Gold…
“High school had the opportunity to play in four state championships there and win in three of them, and to win a national championship in college was amazing, just an electric atmosphere. LSU was so close it was basically a home game for us.”
Cut 3, 12 seconds, championship
The 37-year-old was born and raised in Monroe.
And he knows just how raucous that dome crowd can get, but he says LA is ready for the crowd, and has a lot of experience dealing with the loudest fields in football.
“Playing in Minnesota, having the opportunity to play there, playing in Seattle twice, you know having the opportunity to go down to New Orleans this year, we’ve played in some of the louder stadiums in the league.”
Despite finding incredible success before turning pro, Whitworth has had a tough road since entering the NFL. He was drafted by a Cincinnati team in 2006 that languished in mediocrity for all of his career. He says last week’s win over Dallas was special, because it’s the first time he’s ever known post-season success.
“I haven’t had the opportunity to win a playoff game, but to finally win one was something that I was really excited about and obviously emotional about considering the work it takes year in and year out to get there.”
Kickoff is set for 2PM.
