Haydel’s Bakery in New Orleans is helping Saints fan mourn their stolen championship with the “no ref” cookie that puts the referee’s face of the NFC title game on a sugary treat you can take a bite out of. Co-owner David Haydel says they decided to express their frustration with a little creativity in the oven
“We baked a few and thought that would be enough for the day, just kind of a fun thing to do, then the post on Facebook went viral and people started flying in trying to get them.”
Head ref Bill Vinovich is displayed prominently on the front of the confection, and Haydel say’s taking that first bite might make you feel a bit better about the Bayou Burglary.
“The best part about this is, you’re depressed, you want to eat something, and you get to eat the ref’s face, so there’s a bit of vengeance there.”
The baker says it’s similar to another highly popular cookie option at the Bakery, the seasonally available Alabama/LSU game treat.
“When LSU plays Alabama, we always do the No Nick Saban Cookies, with the line through them, so I thought, why don’t we do No Ref Cookies?”
