Governor John Bel Edwards officially launched his re-election campaign with a video message to voters. The main theme is that he says Louisiana is better now than when he took office in 2016 when he inherited a two-billion-dollar plus budget deficit.
“Today, through our commitment to responsible spending cuts and honest budgeting, we are running our first budget surpluses in a decade, while cutting taxes last year by 600 million dollars,” said Edwards in the video.
Edwards said he’s also worked to reduce the state’s unemployment rate and there are more people working in Louisiana than ever before.
“Our economy is larger than ever before and we’ve landed the biggest and best economic development projects in our state’s history, creating nearly 30,000 new jobs,” said Edwards in the video clip.
Edwards is facing two announced GOP challengers, Congressman Ralph Abraham and Baton Rouge businessman Eddie Rispone. Edwards expects his opponents and out of state interest groups to spend millions of dollars attacking his record.
“Saving the state hundreds of millions of dollars, cutting the number of uninsured in half, and providing life-saving healthcare to our working families,” said Edwards.
