Three people are dead, including a two-year-old child after a pickup truck ran off the road into Bayou Lafourche in Golden Meadow. State Police Senior Trooper Jesse LaGrange said it happened shortly after midnight last night on LA 308 and the driver, 37-year-old Michael Barthelemy of Galliano overcorrected.
“He ran off the road and entered Bayou Lafourche. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to escape it,” said LaGrange.
Two-year-old Trisha Barthelemy of Galliano and 17-year-old Zackary Cheramie of Golden Meadow also died in the crash. LaGrange said impairment is unknown as a factor in the crash.
“Standard toxicology reports are pending for Mr. Barthelemy, but outside of that, the crash is still under investigation,” said LaGrange.
LaGrange said they are not sure exactly how Michael Barthelemy’s pickup truck ended up into Bayou Lafourche, but it ran off the roadway to the right while in a curve. He said motorists must understand that driving is a full-time job.
“It could be distractions. Anything from cell phones to food to even passengers. We want to make sure that we always pay attention and buckle up,” said LaGrange.
