Congressman Clay Higgins (R) represents Louisiana's 3rd Congressional District
Congressman Clay Higgins has been named the top Republican of the Subcommittee of Border Security, Facilitation, and Operations, which is responsible for all aspects of security ops along the land, air, and maritime borders. It’s an appointment that Higgins said he doesn’t take lightly.
“That may be one of the most significant subcommittees on Homeland Security or overall committee of this Congress because of the nature of the struggle we face on our southern border,” said Higgins.
Higgins said although he expects the subcommittee to be one of the more contentious in the 116th Congress, he expects his role to be one to unify both sides of the border security debate.
“I hope to be a bridge that leads us to reason, beyond the current division we witness as a country,” said Higgins.
Higgins said he’s in favor of the border wall and feels optimistic an agreement will be reached funding the structure prior to another shutdown that could take place next month.
“Is it worth shutting down the government again? I can tell you this… I would give my last life’s blood in defense of my country, my family, and my home,” said Higgins.
