There’s less than 72 hours until a one-million dollar Powerball ticket bought at the Ideal Mart in New Orleans expires, becoming one of the highest jackpots to go unclaimed in Louisiana. Louisiana Lottery spokesperson Dustin Annison says if you have the winning ticket from the August 25th drawing, high tail it to the capital city.
“Whoever holds the winning ticket has until 5 o’clock to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters on Laurel Street in Baton Rouge.”
Powerball players have a 180-day deadline to claim their prizes if they hold a winning ticket.
And it’s not the first time a lucky winner has let the clock tick down on a life changing amount of money.
“It happens on occasion. If you will remember back in November I believe there was a 1.8 million dollar lotto jackpot that was claimed with about a week or two remaining, those folks found their ticket while they were cleaning for Thanksgiving company,” said Annison.
If the ticket goes unclaimed by the 5PM Thursday deadline. Annison says the money will recycle back into lotto accounts, and used in other promotions and jackpots.
“By statute all unclaimed prizes won go back into the unclaimed prizes fund, which we use for payoffs on scratch offs, and player promotions.”
The winning number for the August 25th drawing was 20-25-54-57-63 and the Powerball number was 08.
