The Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction takes place tonight in Baton Rouge, recognizing those that have made significant contributions to the state’s ag industry. This year’s class has four inductees. LRN Farm Broadcaster Don Molino says Linda Zaunbrecher of Gueydan is only the second woman inductee.
“She has had pioneering work in increasing leadership opportunities for women in agriculture. She was the first woman elected to the Louisiana Farm Bureau State Board Executive Committee, and she has a very successful rice farm in southwest Louisiana.”
Molino says Korean War veteran Jack Hamilton of Lake Providence is receiving a posthumous induction.
“He is being honored for his innovations in cotton production and ginning. He was a driving force in the formation of the Louisiana Agriculture Corporation self-insurance fund which offers workers compensation coverage to employers across the state.”
Molina says Dr. Grady Coburn of Cheneyville is one of Louisiana’s earliest crop consultants.
“Over the past 40 years, he has had an integral role in producer profitability. He is a founding member of the National Alliance of Independent Crop Consultants and the Louisiana Agriculture Consultants Association, and he has also served that group as president.”
Molina says George LaCour, Jr. of Morganza is respected worldwide for his experience with sustainability and conservation in the cotton industry.
“LaCour has traveled as far as China and Vietnam to share his knowledge of cotton production. He has been a presenter multiple times for international meetings in Brazil. He is a former president of the Soot and Cotton Juniors Association and Louisiana Cotton Producers Association.”
