There has been a bit of relief at the pump recently, which is welcomed news as the summer driving season draws closer. AAA fuel analyst Don Redman says the currently, the statewide average price for a gallon of regular gas is fourteen cents cheaper than around this time last year.
“We kind of forecast that the price would be very similar to what we were paying last June, which was about $2.62 a gallon. Currently we’re looking at about $2.48 a gallon,” said Redman.
Redman says the drop is due to both Louisiana being an oil producing state and seeing ease in demand.
“We are in a situation where we have very healthy inventories of gasoline and that is the main thing,” said Redman.
Redman says going into the summer, AAA is forecasting the price of fuel to be similar or cheaper than last year, but the price is ultimately subject to the news of the day.
“If we have any sudden breakout of violence with Iran, which is rattling it’s sabers right now, or there is a hurricane, all of that could change the picture today,” said Redman.
