The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office is on the lookout for a Bunkie man accused of stabbing a wedding guest at a reception on Saturday night. According to investigators, a fight broke out around 11:40 p.m. Deputy Chief Steven Martel says 19-year-old Dontavian Williams of Bunkie caused a disturbance at the reception.
“He was asked to leave. He was an uninvited guest. He went outside and he and the victim began to argue,” said Martel.
The argument escalated and the suspect is accused of plunging a large knife into the stomach of the victim. Martel says the motive is unclear, but says the two people involved had previously not seen eye to eye.
“It could be apparent that those prior disagreements transferred over to the wedding reception and thus the argument and the stabbing,” said Martel.
Martel says following the stabbing, the suspect fled and law enforcement from the Sheriff’s Office and the Bunkie Police Department responded and began rendering aid to the victim.
“He underwent emergency surgery. His condition at this time is that he is stable and it is my understanding that he is undergoing another surgery because of the severity of the wounds,” said Martel.
Martel recommends that if Williams is spotted that he is not to be confronted and to call law enforcement immediately.
