In Lafayette, police are investigating a shooting that resulted in the death of a two-year-old. The incident happened around eight o’clock Sunday night and three adults at the home have been arrested in what is being ruled an accidental shooting. Lafayette Police spokesperson Corporal Bridgette Dugas says they have been charged with negligent homicide.
“Charging one with negligent homicide can come off as an accident per se, the investigation resulted in them being arrested for that, so the appropriate charge did fit for the three individuals arrested negligent homicide,” said Dugas.
When officers arrived at the home they found the two-year child suffering from a gunshot wound, he later died at a local hospital.
The child’s mother 22-year old MaKayla Cormier is among the three arrested. The other two are 18-year-old Antorio Edmond and 22-year-old Nathan Bob. All three are from Lafayette.
A fourth suspect has been arrested for Accessory After the Fact. He’s been identified as 24-year-old Markeithon Edmond of Lafayette.
