The Eastbank Little League baseball team from River Ridge advances in the World Series after beating New Jersey 4-1 yesterday, putting them one win away from competing in the US final and two wins from the championship game against an international team. Coach Scott Frazier says the kids are staying focused despite possible distractions.
“The kids only have their phones for a short period of time to keep them off of social media and all that stuff. It’s amazing to me how they come out here and play in front of tens of thousands of people,” said Frazier.
This is the first team from the New Orleans area to play in the Little League World Series. Frazier says the team has plenty of momentum, adding it began in the first game against Hawaii.
“After we got through a little bit of jitters early in the game, the kids started to settle in and there was never a question in my mind that we would have the opportunity to make a run in this tournament,” said Frazier.
Frazier says he foresees a path to clinching the championship, but more importantly, he sees the kids are having a blast while in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
“Things are set up really well for us and the kids are very loose, having a great time. How can’t you? It’s almost like we’re at the doorstep of heaven. It’s pretty sweet up here,” said Frazier.
