Louisiana Key Academy in Baton Rouge will receive the national spotlight when it is featured on the CBS Sunday Morning Show with Jane Pauley. The segment will focus on dyslexia and the school’s educational model to accommodate children that face that hurdle.
“Louisiana Key Academy is a model for a public school that is serving all kids regardless of income in the best way possible in making sure they reach their full potential,” said Academy Principal Heather Bourgeois.
A production team visited during the last school year and Bourgeois says parents are excited to see the final product. She hopes the segment will encourage further advocacy of following the template set by the public charter school.
“We hope to be a replicable model and we hope that CBS is able to show that so it’s not just kiddos in Baton Rouge are getting the best, but kids all across the nation are getting the best,” said Bourgeois.
Bourgeois says it is important to diagnose dyslexia early in an effort to spearhead stigmas and ensure better outcomes.
“That opportunity to be a fluent reader as close to grade level as possible, to have that self-confidence, to learn Shakespeare, to learn robotics, to really believe in themselves and go out and tackle the great big world,” said Bourgeois.
The show airs Sunday at 8AM.
