Epic Piping is coming to Lake Providence, investing in a two-million-dollar fabrication facility that will bring decent-paying jobs to one of the most impoverished towns in the country.
The census estimates the northeast Louisiana town has about 3,500 people living in it, and Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson says it’ll provide good living wage jobs.
“It will create 50 new jobs with a nice salary of around 43,000 dollars a year, and some great indirect jobs to go with that.”
Pierson estimates the investment will generate 79 new indirect jobs as well.
in 2016 Epic finished a 43 million dollar facility in Livingston. Pierson says the new location will help the company meet it’s international customer’s needs.
“They will weld certain products, taking like a giant jack stand to support industrial piping. Could be at a refinery or an LNG facility.”
According to the census, the median town income is $18,713, and 53 percent of the town lives in poverty. Pierson says these kinds of jobs can have a big impact on the local economy.
“To get an operation like this is a tremendous shot in the arm, and it actually puts people to work and feeds families.”
In 1994 Time named it the poorest place in America.
