Former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards
Former four-term governor Edwin Edwards is hospitalized after an extreme blood sugar drop that left him unresponsive Tuesday morning. The 92-year-old was rushed to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. His biographer, Leo Honeycutt, says Edwards is doing much better now after receiving an IV. Honeycutt says by Tuesday afternoon Edwards was in high spirits.
“He’s very lucid, very coherent, up joking around, joking with the nurses, I know he’s feeling fine,” said Honeycutt.
Honeycutt says the 92-year-old was not feeling well over the weekend. Edwards daughter, Anna Edwards, told the Associated Press that dehydration caused by food poisoning may have led to a drop blood sugar.
The AP report also says Edwards could also be released on Wednesday.
