Baton Rouge Police arrest eight individuals and seize 15 guns (3 reported stolen) during the filming of a rap video on a neighborhood street. Sergent L’Jean Mckneely says terrified neighbors called authorities after seeing a large group of men waving assault rifles.
“When we pulled up on the scene we saw about fifteen or more people, with guns, and as they saw us pulling up they were attempting to walk away and hide the guns,” said Mckneely.
McKneely says they detained at least 15 individuals, arrested eight of them and seized five assault rifles, ten handguns and small amount of narcotics.
He says if any other aspiring artists are interested in doing a music video shoot in Baton Rouge, there’s a legal, and safer way to do it.
“They should have got a permit to have a street closure, number one,” said Mckneely. “They should have had a proper film crew there, and a person who had the proper equipment as far as props, guns that were not real.”
Two of the eight arrested were juveniles.
Mckneely says further investigation revealed the weapons were loaded and functional at the time they were being used, and a few of them were fully automatic, which is illegal.
“Handling these guns, just waving them out and about in an improper way is against the law because you’re causing fear and terror to the neighbors that are in the area,” said Mckneely.
Arrests were made at the scene for drug possession, and possession of stolen firearms, while 24-year-old Michael Castillo was arrested on an active warrant for Home Invasion and Disturbing the Peace.
