The first ads of the governor’s race run-off have made it on your TV screen and one analyst says this will be the most expensive one month period ever in Louisiana political history. Political consultant Roy Fletcher says an incredible 20 million dollars will likely be spent.
“There’s just going to be a lot of money spent quickly, not just by the campaigns, but all the PACs, the interests, the whole deal,” says Fletcher.
Eddie Rispone is running cuts from Friday’s Trump rally, one showing the President attacking Governor Edwards and another praising Rispone. Edwards’ new ad works to equate Rispone with Bobby Jindal.
Fletcher says the money will pour in from both national parties and governors associations, along with additional funding from partisan actors like George Soros and Charles Koch.
“There just will be a lot of money spent with those kind of people, and those are all billionaires, there will be a lot, a lot at play,” says Fletcher.
Edwards will be supported by his locally run Gumbo PAC, but he’s likely come under heavy fire from well-funded local conservative activists Truth in Politics.
Fletcher says to expect an ad blitz, unlike anything you’ve seen in a statewide election. You will not be able to escape the constant political messaging.
“There will be mail, there will be phones, TV, Radio, social media,” says Fletcher. “Any place they can find to spend money, it will be spent.”
