A woman is arrested in Breaux Bridge for impersonating a police officer. 48-year-old Christina Macdonald is accused of initiating a traffic stop. Assistant Police Chief Terry Latiolais says the suspect flashed a badge to encourage another driver to pull over.
“Got him to pull over and got out and identified herself as a police officer, showing the badge again several times. After everything was said and done, they went their separate ways,” said Latiolais.
Latiolais says after the stop, the victim came to the police station to explain what had happened.
“Trying to intimidate him with the badge, saying she was an officer, I guess fussed at him for whatever traffic violation she thought they did,” said Latiolais.
The investigation is ongoing as to how the suspect obtained the badge or if it was an official badge, but have confirmed it was not a Breaux Bridge Police Department badge. Latiolais says impersonating an officer hurts the relationship between law enforcement and citizens.
“It hurts the people’s perception of officers, they don’t trust and they don’t know for sure if you are an officer or not,” said Latiolais.
