Second ranked LSU started slow, but eventually cruised to another SEC road victory as the Bayou Bengals scored 27 unanswered points on their way to a 36-13 win over Mississippi State on Saturday. The offense settled for field goals early, before finding the end zone on a more regular basis.
“We’re 7-0, I don think our team is a little upset by the way they played, I think our coaching staff is, but I think it’s good for our football team, it will get us hungry for next week,” said LSU Coach Ed Orgeron.
Orgeron says he’s proud that the defense held State to just a touchdown in the first half as the offense was trying to find its groove.
“I think it would have been more of a struggle with the offense not scoring points and the defense letting them score, it’s a team game and the defense came out to play,” said Orgeron.
LSU had a season-low in points with 36 points and total yards with 413, but Quarterback Joe Burrow still threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns. He broke the Tigers single season record for touchdowns thrown as he has 27. Burrow says the hard work they did in the off-season has led to what is already a record breaking season.
“Game seven broke the touchdown record, we are going to have two guys break the single season receiving touchdowns record coming up, so obviously a great achievement for us but we still have five games left,” said Burrow.
LSU is back home this Saturday to host Auburn, who easily defeated a bad Arkansas team on Saturday.
