A 51-year-old Monroe man is in custody in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of 15-year-old Neville High student Ashley Dorsey. Corporal Reggie Brown with the Monroe Police Department says tips from the public led to the arrest of Daniel Ross.
“Witnesses being able to idenitfy the vehicle in reference with the damage that was sustained in the accident and that is what really blown the case wide open,” said Brown.
Ross has been charged with negligent homicide and felony hit-and-run. Brown says they’ve received a full confession from Ross.
“All of the information that he was able to give detectives matched the evidence that we had, so we were able to get a full confession,” said Brown.
Dorsey was riding her skateboard when she was hit on Tuesday night.
The police report says Ross was operating his white Chevy Equinox negligently prior to hitting the victim. Brown says Ross drove away without rendering aid and its disappointing he didn’t come forward when news came out about a fatal hit and run.
“Any reasonable minded individual would at least put two-and-two together, same time frame, same area, so any reasonable person would put two-and-two together and at least if they were concerned, call police,” said Brown.
