For the first time ever, Louisianans can dispose of their vaping and e-ciagarette devices and cartridges, along with unused medications on National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday. Assistant State Health Officer Dr. Joseph Kanter says there will be no questions asked as to the type of vape products turned in.
“That can be nicotine products or some of the illicit products out there,” said Kanter.
The state reports vaping products have been linked to 25 cases associated with a national outbreak of lung injury cases.
Kanter says officials have yet to pinpoint what exactly is causing the ailments.
“We’re seeing the lung injury in folks who are just reporting nicotine vapes and nothing else, it’s a minority of the cases, but it’s still there,” said Kanter.
Kanter says there will be over 100 drop-off locations on Saturday and you can find all the details at takebackday.dea.gov.
“You’ll enter in your zip code or address and it will spit back a list of take-back sites close to you,” said Kanter.
