Vice President Mike Pence returns to Louisiana today to hold a closed-door fundraiser for Eddie Rispone in Baton Rouge.
Tickets are 5,000 dollars per couple for general access. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says it’s likely the money won’t be headed directly into the Rispone campaign.
“They are probably going into some kind of PAC that will aide Rispone directly or indirectly.”
It’ll cost you 15,000 dollars per couple to get the VIP treatment.
It’s a boon for the Baton Rouge businessman who’s poured over 11 million dollars of his own funds into the campaign but appears to have stopped self-funding. Pinsonat says he likely won’t need to anymore.
“In the runoff, he is getting national help from the Republicans in Washington. He is getting help from the Republican Governor’s Association and he is getting help from Mike Pence.”
If the money is being raised for PACs, then by law PACs are not allowed to coordinate with political campaigns.
Pinsonat says national GOP visits have proven effective, citing Edwards’ drop from 59 percent support in Calcasieu parish in the 2015 run-off, to his recent primary finish of just 44 percent in the parish after.
“Trump leaves Lake Charles Friday night before the election and the results the next day turned out that John Bel Edwards didn’t even get anything close.”
It’s the second time this month Pence has visited Louisiana. His last trip was a rally in Kenner on October 5th.
