A fire destroys the Livingston Parish home of a murder suspect that is currently in jail. The home of Errol Hicks burned down Monday. State Fire Marshal spokesperson says the blaze was a very destructive fire making the investigation a challenging one.
“Because of the severity of the fire, it took a little while for our deputies to be able to get on to the actual property to do the kind of work that is involved in there investigative efforts,” said Rodrigue.
Hicks is facing a second-degree murder charge stemming from an act of domestic violence for the September death of Carol Hutchinson. Rodrigue says investigators indicate there is a wide range of possibilities as to what sparked the fire.
“With the extent of the fire, everything is on the table. They have not had any particular direction at all that has given them any opportunity to lean one way or the other,” said Rodrigue.
Rodrigue says it appears no one was inside the structure at the time of the fire.
“We do not have any reports of any injuries at this time. I also do not have any reports of individuals having been occupying the home,” said Rodrigue.
Livingston Parish Fire Protection districts 6, 7, and 4 worked to combat the blaze before 4 am Monday.
