Baton Rouge is the host city of the College Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday night. President and CEO of Sports BR Patrick Coogan says there has never been a physical building for the Hall, but says there is certainly interest from the city to be the site if one is constructed.
“With LSU’s presence here and Baton Rouge claiming the world’s greatest college baseball fans, it seems to us that it is a natural fit,” said Coogan.
Coogan says it will be a great event for college baseball fans with no shortage of recognizable names.
“Not only the inductees and the award winners but the former inductees that have Louisiana ties will be there including Ben McDonald, Todd Walker, Skip Bertman,” said Coogan.
Coogan says this year’s induction class is headlined by Cal State Fullerton’s Mark Kotsay, a two-time All-American and winner of three national player of the year awards in 1995 as well as former FSU head coach Mike Martin, who ended the Tiger’s World Series hopes earlier this year.
“He amassed the most college wins of all time by a head coach and so since he retired this past season, he immediately became eligible. He was a no-brainer for the committee to induct,” said Coogan.
The sold-out ceremony takes place at the Raising Cane’s River Center.
