The Superdome commission votes to move forward with the 450-million overhaul of the Superdome. Commission spokesperson Mike Hoss says the iconic building will get a 21st-century facelift.
“Atriums, field-level clubs, expanded concourses, standing-room-only decks,” said Hoss.
The renovation will take four years to complete.
The first phase of construction will begin in January, and that includes the removal of the infamous ramps that make traversing the 44-year-old structure a workout.
“Basically rips out 80,000 square feet of interior ramps. That’s almost two acres of ramps, so that will set the stage,” said Hoss.
Hoss says the renovations will help the Dome compare favorably with new facilities like AT&T Stadium in Arlington, without sacrificing what makes the landmark iconic.
“We are able to keep its architectural character and its unique atmosphere and yet give fans some of the newer amenities that are going in stadiums across the country,” said Hoss.
