A 14-year-old is under arrest after allegedly stabbing his father to death with a spear inside their Terrytown home. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto says they received a call this morning from a teen who said he stabbed his father multiple times and needed assistance.
“He has admitted to stabbing his father with the spear, and I think he used a few other weapons that we have recovered here on scene,” says Lopinto.
Lopinto says they aren’t sure what provoked the outburst this morning, but they suspect the son may have a mental illness.
“Although we do not have any previous committals or previous calls for service at this location, but some of the things that occurred during the initial questioning make us believe there is some mental illness involved with this particular case,” says Lopinto.
The Sheriff says it was a shocking discovery and a tragedy.
“it’s not something that happens often, it’s a very quiet street here, but unfortunately this is a person that he lived with and obviously took care of, and I don’t know what took it to this point, but it went a little too far,” says Lopinto.
The boy is now in custody.
